Miami, OKLAHOMA – Tribal communities across the nation are set to receive much-needed support and improved access to high-speed internet through a new native-owned and woman-owned partnership designed to overcome long-standing connectivity challenges. Reagan Smith and Eastern Shawnee Professional Services (ESPS) have partnered to boost internet access for Tribal communities as many continue to experience significant barriers in accessing reliable broadband. According to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), nearly 28% of Tribal land residents lack high-speed internet compared to 1.5% of urban residents.
This digital divide limits access to essential services like telehealth, remote education and e-commerce, making it harder for Tribal nations to thrive in an increasingly connected world and prevents remote work opportunities. Tribes have an unprecedented opportunity to overcome the technology gap by deploying necessary infrastructure and technology to provide high-speed internet access in underserved areas.
