POSITION: Child Protection Worker/Prevention Worker   

SALARY: Depending of Exp.

 The Caseworker/Child Protection Worker is a high level and demanding position, in which includes but is not limited to this individual being on-call 24 hours a day including holidays, etc.  This position requires decision making regarding the safety of tribal children that reside on tribal land and/or are involved in Kickapoo Tribal Courts. This individual will also be responsible for implementing preventative services for families when applicable.

This position also requires being able to Assess family needs to establish stable functioning and a safe environment. Also, this worker will be responsible for assisting investigations and being present for show-cause hearings in state juvenile courts, if advised by the Director of Indian Child Welfare.  This position requires for an individual able to represent the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma in court hearings that are involving Kickapoo families, in which would include but not limited to adjudication hearings, court reviews, and/or termination hearings.  This individual will be assigned cases, in which it will be his/her responsibility to be involved with tribal families in meetings, court proceedings, in prevention cases help develop plans with families to encourage and strengthen a meaningful relationship between the parents and children etc.


  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree preferred in social work, psychology, sociology, or education or experience in working in Indian Child Welfare.
  • Skills: All applicants should be current with Microsoft Windows and general computer knowledge.  Must possess the ability to work effectively with appropriate communication skills both written and orally.   Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Requirements: Must possess documents that establish both Identity and Employment Eligibility, must have a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License, pass a drug screening test, and complete an OSBI background investigation as well as extensive background check. English language is a necessity and Kickapoo language is a plus.  Successful candidate will need to understand the importance of the Kickapoo Tribe’s culture, traditions, as well as the language.  Candidate must not be an Indian Child Welfare client nor have previous and/or have current child welfare history.
